DIY Democracy

February 2005 - DIY DemocracyRecent elections in Afghanistan and Ukraine, and elections due early this year in Iraq and Pakistan and later on in Iran, all pose the question: Is democracy a DIY exportable commodity?

In our feature we will examine the neo-con policy of exporting US style democracy to all parts of the globe and ask whether this can work, with special reference to culture, economy, history and society. We will also look at the different systems of democracy being promoted.
