Let’s talk about happiness ... and sex

By James McConvill - posted Tuesday, 3 January 2006

I believe (there should be) a major inquiry kicked off by the federal parliamentary committee responsible for family and marriage laws. This inquiry first needs to look at what is presently going on between the sheets in households across Australia.

The results will determine whether legislative reform is needed at all. The second part to the inquiry will examine the correlation between different sexual positions and levels of happiness. This can be determined through both interviewing participants, and the use of new brain-imaging technology which has proven successful in determining the impact of various events on a person’s level of happiness.

The results of this study will be fascinating. One possibility is that the results will show a positive correlation between the amount of heat in the bedroom and one’s level of happiness. Another possibility is that a higher level of happiness depends on injecting diversity into love-making. Or the results may be quite general - that “sex”, however it is served up, is satisfying.

If either of the first two results shows up, then it may be that rather than devoting our attention to legislative reform, we should be encouraging reform where it matters most - in the bedroom.
