At the end of the day, the initiative to appoint a national royal commission lies solely with the Albanese government, for only the executive government can appoint royal commissions.
Certainly, if the Albanese government does decide to appoint a royal commission, it will need to consult openly with the opposition, the Jewish community and other parts of multicultural Australia, as well as the states, on the terms of reference and the commission’s membership.
This is too big an issue to be left to a NSW royal commission. A federal-state royal commission is needed. There are plenty of recent precedents for such royal commissions.

Antisemitism is a national issue, and so, our national government, the Albanese government, needs to step up to the challenge and put this issue and its policies under open, public scrutiny to prevent such an event from occurring in the future.
