Dick Smith and other good news

By Syd Hickman - posted Monday, 12 August 2013

The Libs will have to confront the Abbott question. If he loses they will be in absolute turmoil and he will have to disappear. Given that they can't stomach Malcolm and Joe Hockey has become something of a joke the ructions could go on and on.

If, as is much more likely, he wins, they will have to sort out who will actually run the government. Abbott is clearly not up to the job of devising and driving a national agenda so a grownup will have to take charge, and many will believe they are that person.

So watching the post-election power plays will be very entertaining.

Of course there is a lot of bad news to balance this good news. The most important is the shortage of real leadership in all spheres of Australian life. But maybe Dick Smith will inspire others to get out there and do something. First we must survive the despair of this election campaign.
