The heart of a nation

By Sue Arnold - posted Wednesday, 25 July 2012

Australia needs to be a place of reason, community and democracy. Most of us are so tired of the continuing conflict, the fixed positions, the gun at our collective heads over acceptance of same sex marriage while our economic and environmental world collapses, of the haranguing of Senator Sarah Hanson Young who got into the Senate on less than 7% of the vote. Apparently this low level of support hasn’t influenced her fanatical stands. No doubt this is an example of the Greens idea of democracy.

In case anyone should think this blog is biased. Take a look at what Barry O’Farrell has done on behalf of the Coalition in NSW. Letting 12 year old kids into National Parks to shoot feral animals with guns, rifles and bows and arrows. Opening up the state to uranium exploration. Reducing the education budget to a joke, failing to support our police, firies and ambos.

Australia is under the control of political dictatorships at the state and federal levels. None of the controversial decisions which have put so much at risk have been part of any electoral platform or democratic vote.

An ancient voice is calling us.

Is Australia’s World Heritage worth fighting for ? If we can’t stop the destruction of the Reef, what can we stop?

Saving the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area is the line in the sand.
