Pacific left struggling in UN climate negotiations

By Jayden Holmes - posted Friday, 9 December 2011

Australia along with New Zealand could also consider directly funding Pacific delegates as the responsible regional powers, or heightening consultation with them to ensure their views are considered by their own negotiators to a greater extent.

The U.N. should also consider funding translators outside of its official six outdated languages designated at the end of World War II, with a focus on building the ability of these small island states to engage more strongly with the negotiations.

At the end of the day, there is a moral imperative that those most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change are represented in the discussions that will decide their future.
