Torrey Orton
Torrey has MA’s in Philosophy and Education from Yale University, and has worked in training & development for 30 years in China, Europe, North America, and Australia. With additional qualifications in clinical psychology and organisational change, Torrey has line management experience in performance management, large group consultation, IT systems building and management, and management development.
Torrey has worked in line and staff roles in government, education, banking and public utilities in Australia, China, France and the US, allowing him to approach consulting tasks from a variety of perspectives. His consulting competence includes intercultural management, multi-national localisation processes, strategic planning and executive team effectiveness. The management of distrust in East-West workplaces is a special feature of his work. He is author of the Australia China Business Council’s Doing Business in Australia manual for PRC investors in Australia (1999).
He is Executive Director of the consulting firm Skill & Will Ltd., Shanghai, PRC. Recent projects include organisation restructuring and growth capability assessment, and customer-focussed capability analysis and strengthening, supported by executive coaching. Clients include Bertelsmann, BOL, Da Peng LNG (BP-CNOOC JV) Boral, Medtronic, Gillette, JMI Group, SGS, Henkel, General Motors, and Nexans. Executive coaching is a main form for delivering services to these customers.
As Director of SINACCORD in Melbourne, Australia, Torrey’s recent consulting projects have included management team development, executive coaching, capability assessment for strategic change and knowledge management strategy. A key current project is over a year‘s support for the Stakeholder Relations division of V-Line as the company has worked through the multiple change agendas of the government and other stakeholders.
